Look out for each other...
This morning on the way to work I listened to the radio and on the news there was a story about an elderly lady in Paris, France who got trapped in her own, windowless bathroom after the inside door handle broke off. She started banging onto the walls and the pipes, calling for help, but nobody came. During the night, thinking that certainly some of her immediate neighbours must now for sure hear...
Thank you peaceful freedom for not having scary war.
Thank you beautiful dove...

Beware of the Bear
Might be old news, but please read the sign to the very end to properly understand the warning:
It’s funny, but also a wee bit creepy. And I think what’s the creepiest is the fact that it’s a real sign, found near Cranbrook, British Columbia. (Ok, Cranbrook is not that close to where we live but it’s closer than Foiano Della Chiana, where I used to live and where the...
No Ugly Women
This photo was taken at a competition in June 2006 of contestants from the TV program, “The Swan”. The competition was between 9 woman for the best total makeover. They had every possible beauty treatment available to them for the contest.
Conclusion: There are NO ugly women, only poor women who cannot afford expensive makeovers.

Lukuly...
Well, “lukuly” my son’s teacher thinks that he is using interesting words in his composition. I wonder when the interesting words will turn into simply wrong ones? Also notice Thomas’s creative interpretation of the word “until”… especially charming since he knows how to spell this one correctly, normally. I know, I know, I shouldn’t be so hard on...

A Sad Story
My friend ordered an iPhone with Fido. They renewed her contract and said, sure, we’ll send you one right away!! A few days later she received the email confirmation, and a few days later again she got an email with the UPS tracking number for her new phone. Delivery was supposed to be superfast, one day later! Well, the day arrived, but her iPhone didn’t. Although on the UPS website...

Open Letter to Steve Jobs
Dear Mr. Jobs, There is talk about iPhone 5 already. There is talk to discontinue the free bumper program by the end of this month. Lots of upgrades are coming out, HDR photography, iMovie, games that are more fun with gyro and higher resolution. Yet over a month from the Canadian launch day, there are STILL no iPhones available from Rogers. Nothing. Nada. Zip. Zilch. Well, yeah, at the Apple...

In Germany
Things aren’t much different in Germany since I’ve been here last, in 2007. It’s been three years, but they still have the same foods in the supermarket, and a few more, and they still watch the same shows on TV, and a few more. The same re-runs, the same American Sitcoms, the same German original content that nobody watches. The yogurts are still the same, the cheeses, the...

Barbecue Adventures
After finally purchasing a “serious” barbecue a couple of months ago, we have been trying to grill the heck out of it when the weather allowed, and in the past two weeks, the weather has been perfect. Steaks, check. Pork tenderloin, check. Chicken breasts, check. And that’s where it ended. Boring.
But then Kelly lent us her Barbecue Bible. So this weekend we invited our...

Germans winning over Neutrals
In my schooldays, Germany - West Germany - were the team no neutrals wanted to follow. They no longer had the class of Franz Beckenbauer and the deadly accuracy of Gerd Mueller; Karl-Heinz Rumenigge was cold-eyed and Teutonic and a pale imitation of Sting. And that was before we got to Harald “Bonecrusher” Schumacher. Even when they won in 1990 the positive energy that seemed to flow...

Yes, they cost more...
… but they’re worth it. If you’re still wondering if you should fork over the extra cash to buy a product from Apple, here’s a little experience I just had.
So I had trouble with my iPad. Something wasn’t quite right. But I couldn’t quite understand what it was. It’s like one of the buttons wasn’t working properly, but not all the time, only...

Stuffies Held Hostage
My son has a problem. For some, it might not be a real problem… but for me it is. Well, he forgets stuff. He forgets everything that is not important to him at the time. It might be important afterwards, after he has forgotten about it, but by then it’s already too late.
Take his Planner, for example. He keeps forgetting to bring it home from school. His planner is important. Stuff is...

The 16th Man
We watched TV tonight. After NCIS was over, Erik switched over to TSN and there was a documentary on about South Africa, Nelson Mandela and Rugby. I was ready to get up from the couch as I hear Morgan Freeman’s voice as the narrator, and suddenly I was drawn into this story about how Nelson Mandela was attempting to unite a country that had been divided by years and years of apartheid, and...

House and Cuddy = Huddy
They kissed. She gave Lucas the boot (finally!)… and they’re going to be together. Oh man, it took sooo long. But they’re finally together!! I’m so happy, I almost cried. I did some digging and found a transcript of an interview with Katie Jacobs, a producer of “House, MD”… Read on:
That was one hell of a final scene. What should we take away from it?

How Erik Met Karin
Where to begin? Oh, I know: The internet. A computer. The very thing you’re sitting in front of right now. Without the internet and a couple of computers connected to it, and two lonely people sitting in front of them, nothing of all this would have happened, or at least, the chances for it to happen would have been extremely slim.
Back then, Erik already lived in the Lower Mainland, and he...

How the iPad went to Africa
You might or might not know that about a month ago I bought an iPad from Apple.com in the US. I knew it would be perfect for my needs and not just myself, but my whole family loved it. In fact, I loved it so much that last Monday, when the iPad was released in Canada, I pre-ordered one with the cellular modem, so I could take it with me on the road. Keeping both just wasn’t an option, so I...

Sunny With Noise
It’s a perfectly fine mid-April day. The sun is shining, the birds are tweeting, and my neighbour’s powerwasher has been pounding for the past hour or so, while he’s washing his perfectly spotless driveway. Has nobody ever heard of a broom??

A Dinner With...
A few years ago someone asked me, “If you could pick anyone, anyone at all, to take you out for dinner, just you and that person, in private, to talk…. who would you pick?”. I though about it long and hard, and I came to the conclusion that I didn’t have a clue. There wasn’t anyone that I could relate to, that I knew I’d share the same sense of humour with, who...

Welcome, Future!
I admit it, I couldn’t resist and ordered an iPad early, from the US. Waiting for two, three more weeks until it gets launched in Canada? I can’t. It was too tempting. I started saving for it the moment it was announced and went to order it last week. Well, it arrived today. My hands are still shaking and my heart is pounding at 130 beats per minute, and yes, I do need to get a life....

iPad Launch: Can Steven Jobs do it again? →
Geek or no geek, Apple fanboy or not… this article is just fun to read…
t is a gorgeous spring day when I arrive at the coolest address in the universe: 1 Infinite Loop, Cupertino, Calif., where Apple has been headquartered since 1993. The campus, for such they call it, is enormous yet not big enough to contain Apple’s current rate of expansion. An additional site is being designed...
